The U.S. will pay for flights and provide other assistance to Panama to help remove migrants; an agreement was signed during a visit to Panama headed by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

The Biden administration will begin paying for Panama to detain and deport more of the migrants streaming through Central America en route to the United States.

Panama will launch deportation flights for irregular migrants in the coming weeks, part of a deal with the United States, a U.S. official said on Tuesday, after the new president in the Central American country pledged to bolster its borders.
