Matt Martin announced his retirement after 16 NHL seasons, all but two with the New York Islanders, a departure that leaves the league with only a few players who take the ice without a visor.

Matt Martin announced his retirement from the NHL and was named a special assistant to New York Islanders general manager Mathieu Darche on Tuesday. The 36-year-old forward had had two assists in 32 games for the Islanders this season.
