The family of Maryland mother Rachel Morin had the opportunity to address the court in front of Victor Martinez-Hernandez, who was sentenced on Monday to life in prison for her murder.

A 24-year-old man from El Salvador who unlawfully entered the U.S. was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole Monday in the 2023 rape and murder of a Maryland mother of five, a case held up by President Donald Trump against the former administration’s immigration policies.

Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler, who was part of the investigation, says it is "a shame" Maryland does not have the death penalty available.
