In a note shared with fans, showrunner Michael Patrick King confirmed why he and Sarah Jessica Parker agreed to end the series after season 3.

And Just Like That… Season 3 ended last night with Carrie Bradshaw ( Sarah Jessica Parker) doing her best to embrace life on her own. The HBO MAX show has followed Carrie’s journey from happily married to Mr. Big ( Chris Noth) to mourning his sudden death to planning a future with Aidan ( John Corbett) that never got off the ground.

The series spawned two movies, 2008's Sex and the City, and its sequel two years later, plus a CW series, The Carrie Diaries, which ran from 2013 to 2014. Most recently, Parker has starred in And Just Like That... — the revival and sequel series to Sex and the City, which aired its finale on Aug. 14.

The end of the 'Sex and the City' prequel series was just as uncanny and strange as the three seasons that preceded it.
