The creator of the mobile phone game Flappy Bird, Nguyen, came out on social media after a ~7.5-year hiatus (since 2017) to disavow Gametech Holdings and their GameFi relaunch of the Flappy Bird title.

Last year, Gametech Holdings filed a motion opposing Nguyen’s retention of the Flappy Bird trademark, arguing that it was abandoned because the game had been out of virtual stores for nearly a decade. A U.S. trademark court gave Gametech a default judgment after Nguyen failed to respond.

Dong Nguyen, the creator of the original Flappy Bird, has clarified that he is not involved in the game's upcoming reboot from The Flappy Bird Foundation. The developer took to X to confirm his non-involvement,
