Detroit City Council President Mary Sheffield and the Rev. Solomon Kinloch are headed to the general election in the race for Detroit mayor.

Voters will decide in November which of the two will succeed popular three-term Mayor Mike Duggan, who is running as an independent for Michigan’s open governor’s seat in 2026.

With Mayor Mike Duggan not running for a fourth term, Detroit is set to elect its first new mayor in 12 years. While the open primary is officially nonpartisan, the leading candidates include several Democrats and one Republican. Read more
