New York City police officers shot a gunman who was involved in a shootout in Brooklyn on Tuesday, authorities say.

Police shot a man armed with a gun outside on a Brooklyn street Tuesday evening, police said. Police received a 911 call for a man armed with a gun near 533 Ocean Avenue. Authorities say a 22-year-old man was ordered to drop his weapon and did not comply.

According to police, the 22-year-old man was shot near 533 Ocean Avenue in Flatbush shortly after 7:30 p.m. The suspect reportedly had a weapon, and officers discharged theirs, striking him in the leg. The suspect's firearm has since been recovered.
