A grizzly bear’s claws usually come in handy for digging up roots, squirrels and insects for a tasty meal. But after getting a taste of human trash earlier this spring, one Yellowstone bear decided to use its brute strength for another purpose: digging up trash cans mounted in cement, then uprooting and turning them over for the food inside.

The bear was killed by park staff in Yellowstone last week because it posed a risk to public safety, the park said in a news release.

An 11-year-old male grizzly bear was trapped and killed in Yellowstone National Park on May 14, after the bear "repeatedly sought out human food sources in developed areas of the park" and knocked over 800-pound "bear-resistant" dumpsters,

Banff National Park, part of Canada's mountain national parks system, is home to both grizzly and black bears. According to Parks Canada, such close encounters can happen in various settings within the park, including near towns or in remote backcountry areas.

Search crews found Tanner Prentiss' body in the water on Monday shortly before 10:30 a.m. near the city's Pine Knot Marina.

A Mission, B.C., man woke up to quite the sight over the long weekend, when he spotted a bear putting in some early morning work.

A resident of Ouray was treated for injuries after a bear charged her in an alley. CPW said that while the woman was hurt, it's not clear from their officers' conversations with the woman whether or not "the bear ever made contact with her and directly caused the injuries.
