An 18-year-old woman about to begin her first year at the U.S. Air Force Academy was killed when a personal watercraft hit her kayak on a Texas lake over Memorial Day weekend, setting off a pursuit by law enforcement that ended in the arrests of two people.

Ava Moore, 18, was killed Sunday after a woman driving a jet ski ran into her as she was kayaking on Grapevine Lake, officials said.
Moore, a 2024 graduate of Timber Creek High School in Keller ISD, played basketball at the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School. She graduated from the preparatory school May 19 and was scheduled to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy as part of its Class of 2029.
