WEBJan 18, 2010 · I weighted the HF lathe stand with plywood and cinderblocks. This has helped keep it solid to the floor. You will need to elevate the tailstock about 1/4 inch in order to center it on anything attached to the adapter due to the increased size. I shim mine with hardwood. There is little that is simple when it comes to making a simple box.

I did use my other lathe to rough out the blanks to round, cut a tenon for the chuck, rough in the square shoulders using a parting tool, and rough out some of the waste with a roughing gouge. I did use the tailstock for safety when turning using the duplicator.

I ordered mine from tools-plus.com and spent $249.00. It arrived yesterday and this morning (10/25/12) I opened the box ready to work!

The Rikon 70-901 extension for $199 at Woodcraft, adds 24", so it should provide 44" between centers. As mentioned above, this combination has been used successfully to turn baseball bats.

WEBMar 12, 2012 · I've had one of those lathes since 1994, paid $90.00 with shipping to Georgia. I have no idea how many 100's of legs I've turned on it and have had a duplicator on it since almost day one. It's not a heavy duty lathe but I have turned some hefty 5 inch island legs on it. I use it now to turn only farm table legs.
